Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences
Introduction
The faculty of Social work and Humanities aim to provide deep understanding of political concepts and functions of various institutions of government, as well as encouragement of independent critical thinking and developing the intellectual capacity and awareness of issues related to the political arena locally and globally. Since its establishment, the faculty has been striving to achieve its strategic objectives by improving and developing intellectual guidance of media, political direction of the basic structures of the State and good governance system that pose the potential to drive comprehensively, media and political reforms in Somalia.
The recognition of serious social problems following the civil war led to an attempt to find solutions to cope with the larger social problems. Efforts have been developed to solve both individual social problems using self-help groups, establishment of institutions with special focus on the vulnerable such as women and children.
Objectives of the faculty
· Improve and develop intellectual guidance of media, political reforms and good governance systems.
· To improve standards and increase educational component on social work practice.
· To develop skills suitable for the implementing social welfare programs.
· To increase and promote environmental awareness
This faculty offers three major programs:
- Public administration
- Political science/International relations
- Social work
This degree is offered over a period of four years split into eight semesters

Bachelor of Public Administration
A bachelor’s degree in public administration provides undergraduate students with the knowledge and skills needed for planning, implementing and evaluating public programs. As students learn to think critically and analytically about public policy, they will better understand the dynamics in their own communities and how to be more effective citizens and public officials.
Graduates of the program will be ready to work in settings like local and state government, nonprofit organizations and private sector businesses.
Baccalaureate Degree (BA) in Public Administration shall be conferred upon the students who successfully complete (172) credit hours

Bachelor of Political Science
The Bachelors Program in Political Science considers the subject from a political, philosophical and historical point of view. It emphasizes the importance of political thought in the past in shaping the ideas and circumstances that affect national and international politics. It facilitates students in understanding constitutions and the rule of law, government, distributive justice, public interest groups, human rights, the economy and economic development from a political point of view and the politics of the environment. Emphasis is placed on the study of conflict and conflict resolution and defense and diplomatic studies. Students are also facilitated in undertaking a critical analysis of the dynamics of local, regional and international politics.
Baccalaureate Degree (BA) in Political Science shall be offered to the students who successfully complete (163) credit hours

Bachelor of Social Work and Social Science
In a fast-changing world the social sciences seek answers to the big questions we face as a society. Those answers inform the work of anyone needing to base their decisions on the best available evidence – civil servants, policy makers, business executives and many more.
Baccalaureate Degree (BA) in Social Work and Social Science shall be offered to the students who successfully complete (163) credit hours
