Red Sea University is collaborating with Bossaso Municipality on the “Health and Wellness” initiative for IDPs within Bossaso town. The initiative was officially launched on the signing day, the 21st of April, 2024, in City Hall. The project is concerned with improving the health status of the internally displaced persons in Bossaso town through general health checkups and nutritional assessments. The project will also provide specialized diabetes and hypertension management as well as psychosocial support where needed. A good event was witnessed with the attendance of the mayor, local councilors, the president of Red Sea University, the vice president for relations, the dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences, the director of Institute for Research and Innovation, confirming a strong community and institutional commitment.
This partnership effort is aimed at full and effective incorporation of IDPs into the local health system, to comprehensively cater to the peculiar health needs of the IDPs. It is a strong indicator of the community’s resolve to improve health outcomes for the most vulnerable group in its midst. This initiative in the region will set a new standard for public health interventions as it responds to both immediate and chronic health needs.
After launching, the program will move to the enrollment of IDPs and actually initiate its first health screening. Timely updates will be shared with the community to keep them abreast of the developments and effects of the initiative. This partnership is not only a strong commitment toward public health but also in terms of action, showing how powerful partnerships can be toward the co-creation of sustainable health solutions for the vulnerable.
