A training program organized by the Faculty of Health Sciences for Public Health students to equip them with the skills and knowledge necessary to serve as Community Health Workers (CHWs). The initiative aimed to bridge the gap between academic learning and practical community health interventions.
The primary objective of the training program was to prepare Public Health students for their roles as CHWs by imparting practical skills, fostering community engagement, and enhancing their ability to address public health challenges at the grassroots level.
Training Components:
- Theoretical Modules:
Comprehensive modules covering key public health concepts, Expanded Programme on Immunization (EPI), Maternal and child health (MCH), nutritional assessment and community engagement strategies.
- Practical Skill Development:
Hands-on training in basic healthcare services such as first aid, health screenings, calculation on Body Mass Index (BMI), and showing the vials containing the vaccine.The students participated in numerous field trainings at various medical facilities.
- Community Engagement:
Interactive sessions with community leaders and members to understand local health needs and concerns.

Placement of students in diverse community settings to apply acquired knowledge and skills.Supervised fieldwork under the guidance of experienced CHWs.
